Essay on America, Land of Immigrants - 746 Words
Americaâ⬠¦ Land of Immigrants Being a citizen in the US is a declaration that you have ancestry from somewhere else on the planet, unless you are a Native American. If we are not native, then where do we come from? Our country was founded by people from across the globe aspiring to become established in America. In the process of doing so, these early immigrants produced the social and cultural framework of life in America. For nearly four hundred years, our nation has continuously had every race, language, and culture contribute to the characterization of being an American. There can be many difficulties for immigrants coming to this country. One of the biggest struggles for newly arrived peoples is to simultaneously be an American andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He does not agree there are significant reasons to have English legally become the official language. However, quite a few people think differently. Large portions of conservative groups say in defense of ââ¬Å"Ameri canâ⬠cultural identity, that we need to implement this law. Jamieson cites many sources in his essay and one quote particularly, from Bob Dole, emphasizes the conservative attitude about non-English speaking people: Dole says; ââ¬Å"Promoting English as our national language is not an act of hostility but a welcoming act of inclusion.â⬠Dole then says that while immigrants are encouraged to continue speaking their native languages, ââ¬Å"thousands of children [are] failing to learn the language, English, that is the ticket to the ââ¬ËAmerican Dreamââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (qtd. in Donegan51). Jamiesonââ¬â¢s personal tone conveys a strong divergence with this mind-set. He says that language discrimination has become a tolerable form of racism. Jamieson writes that the language issue is often accompanied by the need for immigration reform. These two matters have become almost inseparable. Jamieson adds a persuasive quote from University of Texas Professor Robert D. Land Subsidence free essay sample
For example, withdrawal of oil from the field at Long Beach, California beginning in 1936 resulted in subsidence at rates ranging from 0. 5 to 2. 0 ft per year in the center of the field. By 1962, the center of the oil field had subsided slightly over 27 ft, caused by the removal of fluid from the pore spaces in the underground rock, which allowed the grains to compact. Similarly, withdrawal of groundwater through well pumping has resulted in subsidence in such cities as Mexico City, Houston, Texas, and Venice, Italy. â⬠¢Underground salt, ore, and coal mining. However, where mining activity is planned, mining-induced subsidence can be successfully managed if there is co-operation from all of the stakeholders. This is accomplished through a combination of careful mine planning, the taking of preventative measures, and the carrying out of repairs post-mining. â⬠¢Collapse of underground mines â⬠¢Loss of water in organic soils â⬠¢First-time wetting of dry low-density soils (hydrocompaction). Natural subsidence may occur when limestone, which is easily carved by underground water, collapses, leaving sink holes on the surface, such as in Florida. â⬠¢Earthquakes can also cause subsidence of the land because of the movement of faults. â⬠¢Natural compaction of soils Increased demands on our ground water resources have overstressed aquifers in many areas of the nation. Increased withdrawals of ground water can result in ground water depletion, which causes land subsidence. Ground-water depletion occurs at scales ranging from a single well to aquifer systems underlying several states. This tool, interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR), uses repeat-pass radar images from Earth-orbiting satellites to measure subsidence and uplift at unprecedented levels of spatial detail and measurement resolution. Once subsidence is identified and mapped, subsidence-monitoring programs can be implemented and scientific studies can be launched to improve our understanding of the subsidence processes. A combination of scientific understanding and careful management can minimize the subsidence that results from developing our land and water resources. Ultimately, to effectively tackle the growing problem of land subsidence, itââ¬â¢s critical to address the underlying root cause of the problem versus merely treating the symptoms. Itââ¬â¢s important to address human activities such as wasteful water usage that are causing land subsidence including rethinking farming and irrigation practices. Land subsidence is a classic case of tragedy of the commons, where an open-access resource is subject to indiscriminate use. Once we start using groundwater in a responsible way, we will start seeing land subsidence disappearing.

Corporate Governance and Organization â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Corporate Governance and Organization. Answer: The function that suggests the different Countries regulations or protocols and their Institutions making them able to execute the similar function like making sure fair managers, making the disclosing and an accountability by manager is called Convergence. This essay is written to make the corporate governance apply different concepts of change and identify the practices of corporate governance that have been registered with-stand or accepted by countries or corporations. This essay also comprises of the critical analysis of the nature and reasons behind withstand and acceptance of corporate governance practices. For an example, this essay will focus on defining the shareholders and the context of corporate governance by understanding the origin of the power of various shareholders in UK and US. The power and interest in corporate governance also taken into consideration to understand how to manage in the assorted power and interest(Siems, 2008). There has been an argument on if the corporate governance would be competent or knowledgeable in a permanent or characteristic way, ranking higher to other prototypes of Corporate Law. Many of the reporters have the thought that there has been the Global ideas concerning economic or Political Theory or liberalization convergence towards the shareholder integrated prototype, which is, mainly categorized as short term or shareholder oriented, representing the predominant over other models of Corporate Law. Combined with the latest report of the markets of finance and economy, the role of Multinational companies in the international market, there is a Boom with the equity Holdings encouraging the ownership who holds the shares in disseminates organizations or firms in the US and the UK. This had led to consideration of different models of the shareholder aligned prototype of corporate governance in the 20th century. From the year 2001 and onwards Hansmann and Kraakman predicted that the extent of the practical convergence appeared or emerged is much less. The manifest examples of prejudiced Convergence is the structure of the large government company or grouped firms of the countries, the United States and the United Kingdom, which differs remarkably in a way that is worthy of attention obstinately in a course of action, in spite of opposition differences in the world's proprietorship structure in the layout of scattered and still analyzed without any doubt(OECD, 2004). This essay takes issue with any statement that the system concerning economic or Political Theory meant for the agreement on the predominance of the shareholder or if it would be converted into energized activities to other alternative prototypes such as a stakeholder prototype to be converted into the shareholder prototype by recreating the activities throughout the world and suggesting that the stakeholder prototype will continue to maintain or support alongside the shareholder model in a prominen t duration. (Palmer, 2011). It has been observed at that there are two different patterns of share proprietorship and two dissimilar systems of corporate governance. The first pattern is scattered proprietorship of shares consisting of many scattered shareholders holding small shares or stakes in the company which provide them a small scale power and therefore to manage the legal or police cases. However, in some cases, it has been noted that the prominence in some quarters of highly developed liquidity market and to influence the factor which leads to the formation of disproportionate influence because of possessing the opposite effect to that of another which prevent it to follow disproportionate behavior. This topic of scattered ownership structure or architecture may tend the shareholder to resign the company. On the other hand, some people argue that highly scattered ownership provides aware of control upon the Management by taking the incentives of the work they have managed. The second pattern shares the collective ownership of shares where economically strong members of family, bank and other MNC companies throughout the world hold large shares in the company, thereby getting the direct controls upon management. These patterns are generally considered as stocks which are not developed or having a threat of filing of the discipline of the management(Murthy, 2003). The two questions which can come up in the mind after the results are, what are the various stimulation factors for the arrival or existence of different proprietorship architectures of corporate governance?. And the second question is, whether the Global convergence will become thesole pattern which will perform accordingly? There are 3 approaches that have been proposed do analyze the causes of scattered and shared ownership. The first one is the efficiency approach, which depends upon the traditional or economic theory to find out which is the most efficient to bring about the greatest profit for the shareholders. In accordance with this approach, the need of the industry for large scale organization for the collection of share capital from small scattered shareholders (Business Roundtable, 2012). Sometimes, it is also tried due to the undeveloped market that United States system or United Kingdom systems are more efficient than the European systems of corporate firms. The second approach is called the path and the politics dependency approach. In this approach the reporter argued about the introduction of the legal validations or constraints applied to the banks and other institutions to increase the cost, which may seamlessly provide the control to the larger patterns or blocks of the shares, resulti ng in the gradual development of the organization with the scattered or dispersed blocks. The reporter, in the year 1996, namely, Mark Roe also explained the presence of the two patterns discussed above, and named them as a path dependency(ACCA, 2012). He called the two patterns, path dependent because of the present or current situations which maintained or supported oneself, especially at a minimal level in the past or fore-times. The third approach is called the legal protection of minority approach, proposed by Ben Pettet. In this approach the reported; John Coffee argues that if the legal and strong protections will the provided to the scattered or small level shareholders, they can take the action of dispossessing someone by the majority of shareholders, by motivating the scattered shareholders in the organization. This may result in the creation of two systems, shareholder and stakeholder to impact on the corporate governance for the long time. This has also been evaluated th at the laws also influence the choice rather than the legal systems. Also, the impact varies from country to country (Llopis Gasco, 2007). Civil laws in the countries also follow the practice to emphasize a statement that stakeholder-oriented model also propose low protection rate to the small shareholders. This may not have been for all the countries, but also lead to controversy that countries in the world have not largely proximity from different directions so as to ultimately develop the common thing, but also the emphasis on electing the shares in the United States markets to regulate the United States governance system (Masons, 2013). The substructure of the Manager driven prototype related to United System in the year 1950 and after the 10 consecutive years, it was concluded that the professional corporate managers can guide to the large firms on how they can generate the interest of the public. The attraction of this model has been lost because of the collapse of the conglomerate movement. The other model known as low driven model defined in the year of 1950 by the Germans, where the employees perform all of the management roles in the company. It is called co-determination where there are different legal environment for different people. This is only practiced in the country like USA where the workers have no vital role in corporate management and the country like German where the employee plays an important role. This model is based on the previous statement with the belief that direct representation for the German people are provided for individual employee and that employee participation preclude some of the problems because of the agreement signed between the labor and shareholders which give rise to the weak bondings or inefficient decisions (Waddington, 2004). The other model known as a state driven model was created after the France and Japan war, which consists of a representative of large business corporations to develop and maintain a close relationship with the bureaucratic organization and the corporate managers just to get the role from the private company employees and to serve them better to get the public interest. This model is not readily been used nowadays because of the state oriented model. The other reason due in which the state driven model lost the power is its monopoly around the world in the year 1990.Some researchers have found that employee participation can help in the help in promoting the prospects of the company rather than endangering the reporter name delta emphasis to this majority because shareholders of a firm or organization shows integrity to the job and care about the security of the job conditions of the work and getting benefits from the health and retirement. This may result in the creation of two syste ms, shareholder and stakeholder to impact on the corporate governance for the long time. This has also been evaluated that the laws also influence the choice rather than the legal systems. Also, the impact varies from country to country (Youssef, 2012). Due to the failures of the alternative models the researchers and maintain crack man proposed the second reason for the superior right of the shareholders they argue that there is a better performance to the economic conditions of the shareholder oriented prototype remote then other models the resultant of simple comparison between the shareholder oriented model and the distance of the destruction jurisdictions in which the government propose different models and forms are organized the world the main reasons for the development of common laws in the countries which are in strong competition with a shareholder oriented prototype and the zonal arenas such as Continental Europe and East Asia countries which consider other prototypes to be considered as high performance efficiency in terms of Economics with in terms of economic performance than other countries. They also claim that the US economy is still the world's leading economy, leaving behind the economy of Germany and Japan to ap ply to the shareholder prototype, the performance of US can be described with the fact of adopting shareholder oriented -prototype of large firms or organizations (Olannye David, 2014). In contradictory to this the professional stakeholder theology researchers argue that the stakeholder is a friendly model which please the economic performance for some specific from and the society for the long term rather than the short term and it also brings the degree of superiority this is researchers argue that the employees who respect their investment and ignore me produces higher productivity they also are you dead stakeholder friendly model of cooperation can retain the profitability for the considerable amount of time (Petersen, 2013). Then,Hansmann and Kraakman. Formulating the theory the other search are called Petty Irelands modelwhich states that the US flourish the economy of the Japan and Germany because of the equity prices on the high. Again driven management took an immediate action in concluding that the US economy over is on the simplicity superiority on promoting the US economy over Japan and Germany lying down the alliance of the US economy to improve the per formance and efficiency followed by an economic recession by the early year of 2001. By the late 2001, there were financial scandals of US corporations which involve the US in the downgrading of the performance with the USA gained in the year of 80s and 90s. So they concluded that approximately under 10 years financial period in US history stands the credibility of Hansmann and Kraakman (DeLoach Thomson, 2014). This essay shows that the Anglo-American shareholder-oriented prototype is different in terms of of reference. Although, overall, the beguile conclusion is that the shareholder-oriented prototype needs worthy of attention and calculation of different factors which slows down the process of transformation of the corporate governance prototype. It can be seen that the removal of convergence is difficult and it may remain to be seen worldwide. Assuming that corporate governance prototypes must be held to the attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation about learning from one another doesnt mean it is not going to happen that the consensus and convergence in the international market will emerge in the nearly accurate resultant. In fact, each system must achieve maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense for us to another system, there should not be any overall change taking place in the system itself without demolishing the process and its reverse which i t is occurring at equal rates (Deloitte, 2015). This can be justified by the confirmation of the history of the Japanese market that the core values which can be safeguarded does not come into the immediate attention to the market. This has influenced the employee of the Japan to willingly accept the new changes or the rules for the architecture encircling the individual directors and committee board. This essay also includes the critical analysis of the nature and reasons behind withstand and acceptance of corporate governance practices. For an example, this essay will focus on defining the shareholders and the context of corporate governance by understanding the origin of the power of various shareholders in UK and US. Another example, can be the UK government proposal, which binds or encapsulates the laws of collecting all the profits coming from the interest of the stakeholders in the company. If we view resting as having its own associated health risk, itââ¬â¢s vivid that the most important thing for a person to understand is the kind of risks embedded within the work s/he does, after acknowledge that little can be done to bring it to extinction (Barnett, 200 5). For many centuries, workplace incidents leading to work fatalities have been matters of great concern in all major industry categories; thus, over the years, efforts have been put to reduce the number of workplace injuries in most of the major industries of mining, transportation, building construction, agriculture and food industries among others. Certainly, the graph of work related industrial incidents have shown a decreasing trend in the last few decades, and such great injury reductions has been as a result of numerous federal and state historic established policies and legislations, dating back as far as 1960s during which occupational safety and health organization (OSHA) directed them to save the lives of miners. This has however been extended to all kind of work categories, hence, meat packing industries have not been an exceptional (Anonymous, 1999) Within the meat packing industries, the labor force is exposed to a number of risks including incidents of machine cuts which may be escalated by the machineââ¬â¢s high speed, animal attacks or even manipulated human systems particular in the areas of management and supervision.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Whereas in certain instances, reduction of machineââ¬â¢s high speed has been suggested as the best way of reducing the machine injury casualty rates reported in an organization, such protection reservation is subjective in one way or the other. The idea of reducing machineââ¬â¢s speed may empirical end-up in stopping the machine, or low speed would result into a significant reduction of production. If the machine speed is slowed down, this will generally not only be contrary to the investorâ⠬â¢s intentions, but it will also go against the normalcy of business operation practices and the nationââ¬â¢s objectivity of having increased economy growth (Wanda, 2007). Based on the utilitarian approaches, it is detrimental to maintain the extremes of the machineââ¬â¢s speed, which would leave largest number of individuals negatively affected. According to a utilitarian approach, optimal speed has to be maintained with minimum injury incidents for the organization to realize the highest returns on the investment serve and satisfy the greatest numbers of clients as well as making the most of the employees feel happy through rewarding them with better salary/wage payment. In order to circumvent the idea of lowering machineââ¬â¢s speed, yet having the least number of parties who will be positively affect, robotic technology has been developed to change the bitterness of low productivity and quality for the joy of many, employees, employers and consumers (Eckhart, 2001). T hough there are numerous kinds of jobs in the meat packing industry, most of the work forces in this field are not aware of the great risk involved. As revealed, the labor forces in these industries are exposed to greater risk by working under unsafe environments of fast moving machines. According to Human Rights watch, the greatest problem is not working at fast moving machines; however the exposure of workers to the unprotected high-speed machines bearing sharp cutting edges is the most worrying thing as these can easily deprive off workerââ¬â¢s life.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Ethics and Morals at Workplace specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Generally, the obvious question that many would have is whether workers will have safe working environment by reducing the machineââ¬â¢s speed fixed increased blunt edge. This is impossible as far as production outputs and business results are expected for good a nd happiness of the entire society. On the focus of material satisfaction and in the endeavor of achieving business goals of accruing of unprecedented profits, investors and the mainstream government bodies have greatly put efforts geared towards the reductions of workersââ¬â¢ unsafe environment. With the governmental organizations concentrating on the formulation of stringent policies and laws of the injured victims, such as those policies dealing with reporting and compensation matters, operations have greatly changed in the organizations whereby enormous costs have been incurred through installation of protective devices and fixation of meshes at the entry point of cavities and around fast-moving parts with sharp edges. Hence, they all consent that injuries have greatly been reduced in the recent past (Gonzalez, 2005). For most workers, packing task in the meat packing industry is view to be the easiest of all other types of tasks, basically because itââ¬â¢s a light kind of job, where individuals are less tasked and burdened with lifting of heavy loads which normally have risks with physical evidences incase of incident occurrence. However, with the false impression created by such an environments, worker accomplishing the packing task are more exposed to unfathomable hazards. A part from the dangers of sharp cutting parts, workers are usually kept on busy working conditions ensuring that they keep their pace with the speed of the packing machines. In doing so, they overwork their bodies, causing invisible injuries in the physiological and psychological processes in the body. The government has given little attention to these sorts of injuries, which are much more severe type of injuries than those with physical evidences.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More While a few public elites have the understanding of the risks associated with trick of overworking the labor force in the packing sections, the government entrusted by the citizens to protect them appears to either have diverted from its functions of protection, or its members lacks the necessary knowledge of the implications of using such high-speed machines. This has lead to greater bonding of the government with meat packing organizationsââ¬â¢ management team in preaching the word aimed at creating workersââ¬â¢ physical safe working environment, yet leaving out, or concealing the core part that would lead to full reali9zation of workersââ¬â¢ protection and greatest happiness (Eckhart, 2001). In conclusion, the Human right reports was fraught of falsehoods if view from the deontological perspectives, where the government and its selected OSHA body believes that figures on the number of injuries and the production rate are the real measures of individuals protection, as th ere is compliance with civil laws and regulations, as well as by-laws from recognized governmental bodies. However, the Human Right report was only true based on the utilitarian perspectives, that is when there is need to create room to make the greatest number of individuals happy. This calls for collaboration between the government, the industrial team and the non-governmental body engaged with the protection of human rights. References Anonymous, (1999). Discuss the influence of the Mongol Rule on Russia in the 13-15th Essay
Discuss the influence of the Mongol Rule on Russia in the 13-15th centuries - Essay Example Russia before the Mongol invasion The 12th century became known as the peak of a period of feudal disunity in Russian and Soviet historiography. While there existed 15 quasi-independent principalities in the Russian lands of the mid-12th century, their numbers swelled to more than 50 on the eve of Mongol invasion (Vernadsky, 1973). The largest of these principalities included the Principality of Vladimir-Suzdal that dominated the North-East Rus, the mercantile Republic of Novgorod that was practically independent from the Riurikid dynasty due to its custom of electing its princes, and the Principality of Halych in the South-West that became a basis for Dual Principality of Halych-Volynââ¬â¢ after the unification of Halych and Volynââ¬â¢ under Volynian prince Roman Rostislavich (ruled 1189-1205) in 1199 (Martin, 2003, pp.97). The other principalities, including Ryazan, Smolensk, Chernigov and Polotsk, were generally weak and dependent on their larger neighbors. The political fra gmentation of Kievan Rus was accompanied by bitter infighting between various principal cliques for the domination over Kiev, which, while having lost its previous political and economic importance, still remained a lucrative prize for an ambitious prince. The most important feudal wars in the 12th to 13th century included the warfare between princely clans of Monomashichi and Olââ¬â¢govichi in 1146-1154, the raid of north-eastern princes led by Andrey Bogolubsky against Kiev in 1169, and the war between Roman of Volynââ¬â¢ and Suzdalian Grand Prince Vsevolod the Big Nest (ruled in 1154-1212) in 1202-1203 (Martin 2003; Vernadsky 1973). While the separation of Rusââ¬â¢ lands into distinct polities allowed rapid economic development at the local level and facilitated the formation of cultural centers independent from Kiev, it undermined the potential for joint struggle of different principalities against the Great Steppe nomads. The failure of the raid of Igor Prince of Novgo rod-Siversky against the Polovtsy (Cumans) in 1185 (Martin, 2003, p.146) and especially the first disastrous encounter between the united hosts of the Rusââ¬â¢ princes and the vanguard Mongol troops in the Battle of Kalka River in 1223 (Fennell, 1983, pp.66-68) showed that Kievan Rusââ¬â¢ was unprepared for the Mongol onslaught. Positive and negative influences on the development of Russia under Mongol rule After the subjugation of Volga Bulgarians in 1236, the Mongol armies led by Batu Khan and Subutai attacked the territories of Grand Principality of Vladimir-Suzdal in November 1237. The fall of Ryazan and Vladimir signified the end of organized resistance by north-eastern princes, while the death of grand prince Yuri Vsevolodovich in the Battle of the Sit River in March 1238 (Fennell, 1983, p.81) left the Rusââ¬â¢ princes without their formal sovereign, making any coordinated counterattack unlikely. The only territories of the North left independent were Novgorod and its vassal principality of Pskov. In 1239-1240 Batu Khan attacked the South-Western Rus, destroying Chernigov and taking Kiev in December 1240 (Fennell,1983, p.83). Finally, in 1241 the Mongols managed to capture and ransack Halych and Vladimir-in-Volynââ¬â¢, the capital of Volynian lands. From that time on, the majority of Rusââ¬â¢ principalities was unable to resist the Mongols and

Business environment - Essay Example The UK is experiencing an increasingly ageing population which means that there will be a corresponding rise in demand for products targeted to this demography such as medicines, fashion and accommodation (Gillespie, 2007). On the converse, companies will experience increased costs in the form of pension payments to staff that are living longer. One strategy that firms are using to tackle the rising pension costs is to tap into this labour pool of older employees, by keeping them on the job longer. Of note also it that the ageing labour is being replaced by UK high net immigration trend that is the largest in Europe (Walayat, 2010). Economy Watch (2010). The Influence of International Training on Firefighters' Training Dissertation
The Influence of International Training on Firefighters' Training Performance Outcomes - Dissertation Example As an attempt to decrease the unfavorable outcomes among firefighters, majority of fire departments incorporate these fire training regimens, including physical training programs that will ensure the competence and physical fitness of firefighters when in duty. Firefighters obtain learning through a combination of classroom and practical training that enables these individuals to maintain or further enhance such competences. The importance of providing training and development opportunities for firefighters has been signified by the implementation of policies and considerable amount of resources invested for workers to acquire learning and knowledge. However, it has been asserted by Moats, Chermak, and Dooley (2008) that for training systems to yield positive outcomes, its effectiveness must be assessed as well. Many organisations have been known to lack the resources for providing training that is not measured with regards to its significance in the attainment of organisational goal s. According to Brinkerhoff (2005), training and development of workers must be in adherence to the accomplishment of long-term objectives. Effectiveness is a major aspect of worker training and development for any organisation due to the fact that this enables workers to attain and enhance the necessary skills and knowledge for successfully carrying out their duties. For these organisations to establish and maintain efficient programs, it is highly significant for these training systems to be evaluated to ascertain its consistencies with the overall strategy of the former. Exploring the related procedures and decisions that are carried to ensure training effectiveness is equally important as well (Mitroff, 2005). While organisations who require workers for increased security, including the use of fire departments, have allocated a significant amount of money for developing well-trained and competent workforce members, there remains a need to look into their efficiency in carrying o ut these services. Therefore, this study places an emphasis on the training programs provided to firefighters, particularly in the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), to evaluate these activities and programs and their outcomes on both the organisation and the firefighter themselves. Saudi Aramco is known as the Saudi Arabian Oil Company that is a state-owned oil company in Saudi Arabia and is expected to be the most valuable company that is privately-owned in the world. Aside from maintaining a large hospital and offer health insurance for workers, Saudi Aramco is also known for having a number of fire stations that provide both residential and industrial services. Its industrial security was established twenty years ago as a means of ensuring the safety of the industrial and residential vicinities within and surrounding the company. However, a major challenge for the company is to provide satisfactory fire protection with which both the hard and soft infrastructure should be emphasized (Shelley and Smith, 2008). While the hard infrastructure is comprised of the facilities, its soft counterpart focuses on the individuals who carry out the work. It has been a concern for the Saudi Aramco to enhance their fire protection services as well as the safety of their own firefighters by

The Elements Of Violence In Macbeth English Literature Essay
The Elements Of Violence In Macbeth English Literature Essay With elements like wars, assassinations, and murders, violence takes up a significant part of Macbeth. At the early stage of Macbeth, the audience is presented a battlefield scene where a bloody massager appears. Echoing such a violent and bloody image, the play ends with Macbeth being killed. Although karma is an Indian belief, lines like This even-handed justice / Commends the ingredients of our poisoned chalice / to our own lips (Macbeth I.vii.10) reveal traits of karma in the Scottish play.Ã [1]Ã Karma means that all actions have consequences which will affect the doers of the actions at some future time (Reichenbach 399). In this essay, I will argue that violence is not merely actions performed by the characters but the skeleton of plot and theme. For the sake of a clear analysis, I will first outline the concept of karma and karma of violence in Macbeth. Then I will conclude that the karmic effect of violence drives the development of plot and reflects moral judgement. As suggested by Rajendra Prasad, the law of karma should be viewed as a retributive theory of morality (qtd. in Keown 331). Reichenbach also noted that 1.Morally accountable actions which are done out of desire for their fruits are subjected to karma; 2.Some karmic effects are manifested at once or in this life, some in the next life; 3.Karmic effect of actions can be accumulated (qtd. in Keown 335). In this essay, Keowns idea on karma is taken; the relationship between karma and intention is indisputable; volitional action alone can result in karma; sinning in ones heart without physical performance is possible that same act may have different karma for different people (Keown 336). Rebirth and karma beyond characters portrayed lives will not be discussed here. Violence is not only a part of the play, but its skeleton. Karma, as stated, is accumulative and is resulted from moral and physical actions. In Macbeth, violence, with its karmic effect, breeds violence. In Act one, Macbeth is reported about cutting Macdonwald open, unseame[s] him from the nave to th chops, / [a]nd fixe[s] his head upon battlements (I.ii.22-3)and is [n]othing afeard of what [himself] didst make, / [s]trange images of death (I.iii.97-8). This suggests his violent nature and his capacity of bloody deeds in the future. Such a valiant and worthy achievement (I.ii.24), as a result, won him the title of Thane of Cawdor. It was then the realization of prophecy bred his ambition whose murder yet is but fantastical (I.iii.139). The word fantastical echoes with Banquos address to the witches I the name of truth, / Are ye fantastical or that indeed / which outwardly ye show?(I.iii.54-5), drawing parallel between the witches and Macbeths fantastical thoughts which are not indee d outwardly [he] show[ed] as well. With such murderous thoughts, Macbeth, whose [place] [is] the nearest (I.iv.36) to Duncan betrays his own family blood and country to secure the throne. The karmic effect of this bloody throne is fear; the fear on Banquos issue and Macduffs flee to England prompts him further violence and ultimate self-destruction. His bloody acts make returning were as tedious as go over (III.iv.140-1).Violence, therefore, breeds on-and-on violent deeds till the end of the play. As Macbeth puts it, Things bad begun make strong themselves by ill (III.ii.55), such on-and-on violence increases intensity over time. After violence against Macdonwald, Macbeth killed Duncan in sleep. Sleep, under Shakespeares description, is innocent . . . that knits up the reveled sleeve of care . . . the great natures second course, chief nourisher in lifes feast (II.ii.34-8). The peaceful description of natures gift and Duncans royal position contrast with the murder, highlighting intensified violence. Although he is unsettled by the deed, he soon recovers and exhibits a greater degree of violence. Without consulting his wife, Macbeth readily kills two innocent servants. Compared to the hesitation shown in Duncans murder, he becomes bolder. Violence, as a recurring role, performs an endless loop. Macbeth, with a mind full of scorpions (III.ii.36), then sends out three men in total only to ensure Banquo and Fleances deaths. He becomes determined to take a step further to kill the weaker gender and innocent children in Macduffs family. When Macduff receives the tragic news, he asks about his children repeatedly and all my children?, My children too?, What, all my pretty chickens and their dam / at one fell swoop? (IV.iii.211-8). Such responses reflect that people then perceived the act of killing innocent children as outrageously violent. The climax of on-and-on violence came when Macduff greets the King with Macbeths head, saying Behold, where stands / the usurpers cursed head. (V.viii.54-5), putting an end on the loop of violence in the play. This illustration of the intensifying loop of violence suggests karmic consequences of murderous thoughts. In the analysis of Shakespearean violence, Foakes suggests that the urge to violence is deeply embedded in the human psyche, and creates recurring whatever political formations are dominant (Foakes 16). This viewpoint echoes with this karmic loop of violence. The series of violent acts keeps driving the plot development. The karma begins with Macbeths sinning in [his] heart (Keown 336) with murderous thoughts. Had he stopped at any point of his violent murders, he would not have suffered the deadly karma. Karmic effects of Macbeths repetitive violence, as suggested, accumulated throughout the play, causing the downfall of the soul and self-destruction. The karma of violence, therefore, extends the plot with series of consequences in Macbeth. In Macbeth, karma of violence is not only the consequences of behaviour. It implicitly reflects good morality in violence. Contrasting conventional idea, violence does not necessarily imply bad karma. Traditional Christian belief generally subscribes to the idea of Thou shalt not kill. However, under karma, same act may have different consequences for different people. At the beginning of the play, Duncan ordered the execution of Thane of Cawdor. This act of violence, justified by the traitors betrayal, did not result in a bad karma. Duncan, despite his death, enjoys the peace of mind of which Macbeth is deprived. Although Banquos violent behaviours are not explicitly described, audience can understand that Banquo, as a warrior, is capable of violence. His acts of violence, however, are justified by his selfless patriotism. In the play, Shakespeare uses Banquo as a moral contrast against Macbeth. They are of similar background, official rank and power at the beginning of Macbeth; they both face the tempting prophecy. However, Banquo endeavours to keep [his] bosom franchised and allegiance clear (II.i.26-7) while Macbeth jump[s] the life to come to commit murders (I.vii.7). The fact that Banquo succeeds in upholding morality in the same temptation suggests that Macbeths tragic ending is not a result of fatalism, but karma out of volitional actions. Karma is hugely based on ethical consideration and moral accountability. With moral actions, Banquos family line is blessed with good karma, contrasting Macbeths violence-induced fatal karma. Macduff, who performed the visually bloodiest violence by cutting and displaying Macbeths head, is also exempted from bad karma.Ã [2]Ã Since Macbeth has no children of his own, it is unlikely that Macduffs bloody deed would provoke another loop of violence against himself. It is reasonable to suggest that, Macduffs violent action, as a karma on Macbeth, is justified by its good intention of saving Scotland from the tyranny. The above examples of karma contrast against the deadly karma on Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. In Macbeths case, he performs all the violence based on his desire for power and the fear in securing it. Accordingly, he is subjected to karmic effects, which mostly take the form of internal struggles. Booth concluded that, all three murders towards Duncan, Banquo and Macduffs family are followed immediately by scenes of suffering and self-tortures (Booth 31). After Duncans murder, every noise appals Macbeth and he hears ominous voices threatening that he could no longer sleep with peace (II.ii.56). Although Macbeth does not show explicit guilt after Banquos death, his sub-conscience tortures him. He is startled by the image of Banquos phantom despite his self-regard as a fearless man. Macbeths soul becomes weary after murdering Macduffs family. He pessimistically believes that [his] way of life / [i]s falln into the sere, the yellow leaf, / [a]nd that which should accompany old age, / [a]s h onor, love, obedience, troops of friends, / [he] must not look to have.(V.iii.22-6). Ironically, Macbeth has traded his soul, friends, honour for a fruitless crown and a lifeless life. He is caught in a tragedy of his own making. In this way, the karma on Macbeth manifests as his internal struggles. Despite sympathy towards Macbeth, Macbeths selfishness, betrayal and violence deserve his own deadly and violent karma. As suggested by the Bible, For the wages of sin is death (Roman 5: 23). Therefore, given his murderous deeds, his death has to be brutally violent for moral justification. Macbeths tragic death implies that Shakespeare has acknowledged the immorality of Macbeths violent deeds. Lady Macbeth, similarly, has to pay a price for pouring [her] spirit in [Macbeths] ear, / [a]nd chastise[s] with the valour of [her] tongue (I.v.24-5) Ribner commented that The relationship between Macbeth and his wife steadily deteriorates . . . . The force of evil severs Macbeth from the rest of humanity; it breaks also the bond which ties him to his wife. He lives more and more closely with his own fears into which she cannot intrude . . . . No longer does he confide in her. (Ribner 164) Considering Lady Macbeths admiration to Macbeth and her devotion to help him get the throne, psychological separation between the couple is unbearable to Lady Macbeth. It is reasonable to deduce that this psychological separation may explain her mental breakdown and loss of masculinity displayed before. The fact that the seemingly evil Lady Macbeth is also subjected to karmic condemnation from her own conscience may signifies her humanness, but more importantly, the deadly karma is to impose moral judgement on her behaviours. Karma of a particular behaviour reflects its moral nature and judgement. In Macbeth, not all violent deeds result in bad karma. Considering the play is set in a political disturbed period in which Scotland was first traumatized by traitors and then Macbeth the Tyrant, violence, to a certain extent, was a norm in that era. The fact that Scotland restores her order through violence against Macbeth suggests that some violence is morally right. These characters who perform violence for morally right reasons can be exempted from bad karma. Karma, in Buddhist belief, is controlled by a Supreme Being. Shakespeare, as a Supreme Being of this play, reflects judgements towards the characters behaviours with different karmas resulted. Karma on violence, therefore, gives the audience some ideas on the morality of violence. Violence is the linking element that drives plot development. It is through the recurring nature of karma that violence in Macbeth trammel[s] up the consequence (I.vii.3) of Macbeths self-destruction. By designing different karmic effects, Shakespeare explores the good and evil of violence. Although sympathy towards human flaws may be valued, it is necessary to have deadly karma for ill-intended murders committed. Violence, therefore, is not merely a part of the plot. It is the driving force of the plot and a subtle exploration on morality of violence.

The Growth And Production :: Beer Papers
The Growth And Production The smell of yeast hits you on the street more than a block away. Inside the lobby of the brewery, it is even stronger. I wondered how long that secretary had been putting up with the smell. "You get used to it." she said "The tour begins in ten minutes." Two other families had come to take this tour as well. A tasteful way to spend the afternoon with grandparents or in-laws, I thought. A short old man comes out after a while. He is wearing an amplifier around his neck and carrying a microphone. The speaker is bigger his head. The other members of the group stand up and we are all lead back out onto the street. The traffic rushes by us as he explains the square brass plate bolted into the pavement at our feet. "This is a time capsule" squawks the amplifier. The time capsule was buried in 1956 and will be opened again in the year 2006. It contains one bottle of Henry-Weinhard's beer, and one local newspaper. I picture a crowd gathered here in nine years and I picture them some fifty years ago. Maybe they shiver against the rain or maybe they brace themselves against a fierce wind rushing up Burnside St. like it is today. In any case I picture them waiting there as the sacred bottle is unearthed, having traversed time to bring us the old newspaper. I wonder if it will have frozen and cracked down there. I wonder if anyone will drink that bottle if it is intact when it is brought to surface. I picture the small man with the amplifier tipping back his head and downing the contents of the artifact. We are truly a people brought together most readily by such a symbol. Nothing warms Americans up to each other like alcohol. Blitz beer is one of the cheapest brands one can buy in the grocery store these days. It runs about four or five dollars for a twelve pack. Needless to say it is the choice of the thriftier lush. The can is of a simple design. White with red letters reading "Oregon's Premium quality beer for over fifty years....Founded 1856." Organization Design And Technology Of Sony Corporation Essay
Due to the fast-paced growth of Sony Corporation in the international market, it gave way for the misalignment of its market and internal expansion leading to the deterioration of its rate of technological development or the quality of its product lines, and the decline of the efficiency of its workforce as the number of responsibilities and tasks suddenly increased triggered by the market expansion of the said company. With the aid of ICT Supplier Self-Assessment Questionnaire and balance scorecard, Sony Corporation has been able to improve the quality of its product and workforce efficiency. By expanding the workforce of Sony, it can solve the deterioration of its rate of technological advancement and inefficiency on workforce on a long term basis. Between adding new position to the organization structure of Sony and hiring more workers to expand the workforce of the said company, adding new position to Sony Corporation is the one that fits to solve the above mentioned problems of Sony considering the cost of its implementation and effectiveness. Introduction With the growing competition in the international market, it is a must for Sony Corporation to secure competitive advantage in terms of internal stability and technological development. Most consumers nowadays provides more premium on the most advanced products in the market, and this is the primary reason why Sony Corporation allot significant amount of resources to research and development to maintain the pace of their technological development. Furthermore, Sony has designed its organization structure in such a way that it could easily respond to various new market challenges. But the forces of market competition and globalization blocks the technological advantages of Sony as well as destabilized the internal stability through attacking their organization design as various departments and key person of the said company shoulders broader responsibilities as the company continues to expand in the international market. Sonyââ¬â¢s competitors, Panasonic, Toshiba, Apple, Microsoft, and Dell are just few of the many electronics companies also operating in the international market with fast-paced technological development (Isuppli. om 2006: 1). Due to this scenario, Sonyââ¬â¢s products appears to be less technologically advanced compared to its competitors leading to a sudden down turn on their sales and profit internationally as their customers shift to their competitors (Eetimes. com 2008: 1). Furthermore, during the peak of Sonyââ¬â¢s international operation, various departments and top level managers was bombarded with more tasks and responsibilities in order to support their market expansion which presently lead to the deterioration of their performances. Distribution of task and responsibilities is weak and most of the organization design of Sony is already obsolete considering the present condition of competition and globalization in the international market. In this regard, this paper aims to discuss how the forces of competition and globalization weaken the organization design and technological advantage of Sony as well as the potential alternatives that Sony must undertake in order to solve the said weaknesses. At the end of this paper, expect for a recommendation that would best solve the problems of Sony concerning its organization design and technology. Classification of Organization Structure Sony Corporation has been using divisional type of organizational design as illustrated by their organizational chart, see appendix (. During the early years of Sonyââ¬â¢s operation in the market, the divisional type of organization design enables them to easily implement strategies and decisions to problems that need immediate solution. Since Sony was only on its development stage, they were able to fully utilize the optimal gains that can be derived from using divisional organization structure. The fast relay of information, decision making and implementation of strategies through the use of divisional organization design provided Sony with tremendous amount of gains in the international market as they start successfully penetrating their target market and out-performed their competitors in the market, making them one of the successful multinational companies around the globe (Goliath. ecnext. com 2007: 1). Furthermore, the divisional organization design enables Sony to specialize its ââ¬Å"groupsâ⬠since thereby improving the quality of their products in the market (Market Wire 2005: 1). Like for instance, the Sony Ericson Mobile Communications Group concentrate only to develop and produce mobile communication products in the market. The head of Ericson Mobile Communications Group is directly below the CEO of Sony, and so with their other groups (Sony. net 2008: 1). The direct relationship between the head of Sonyââ¬â¢s groups and its CEO provides ease on decision making and distribution of information as well as strategies on brand development. But this organizational structure starts to provide instabilities to Sony Corporation as it continues to grow as electronics industry superpower in the international market. As the company grew in the international market, responsibilities of each head of various groups also increased up to the point wherein they start performing inefficiently as their time being spent on every vital aspect of their operation become lesser and lesser. In this regard, the present status of divisional organization design to Sony becomes ineffective and only provides instabilities as the executives of the company starts to perform inefficiently on their respective fields. But divisional organization design fits Sony than any other organization structure available in the business management realm. Since Sony have a diversity of products in the market, and each group specializes into the production of their own product lines, then, divisional structure already fits Sony. The only problem lies on the fact that every executive of Sony starts gaining more responsibilities in his/her assigned group. In other words, the international expansion of Sony in the recent years was not accompanied by expansion of internal responsibilities of various executives of the said company, thereby leading to a down turn on their overall performance. In order for Sony to restore the stability of its internal affairs, it does not have to change its organization design; rather, Sony management can make improvements on their divisional structure by adding new positions or by appointing executive assistants to key positions on various groups of the said company. This strategy will provide enough room for the key personnel of Sony to manage their responsibilities well and delegate those less priority tasks to their assistance or new positions in the group. In other words, this strategy will give way for the internal expansion of Sony while maintaining their original organization design that was already proven to be effective and fit to the business structure of Sony Corporation. Choosing organization structure other than divisional design would provide great risk since Sony operates on various groups with different product lines to produce into the market. Furthermore, each group has less influence on one another and almost operates independently from other group while their headquarters and CEO serves as the link between them. In this regard, it is vital for Sony Corporation to implement the said internal expansion of their groups in order for them to re-establish their competitive advantage in the international market in terms of internal stability and workforce efficiency especially during these times wherein the forces of tight market competition and globalization calls for the acquisition of more potential sources of competitive advantages to keep the pace of Sonyââ¬â¢s growth internationally. Key Determinant and Influences on Organizational Structure One of the main strategies of Sony in expanding its share on the international market would be the diversification of its product line from electronics to B2B business solutions, which later on enables the company to tap various resources. Since each product line of Sony needs different production processes compared to others, Sony decided to use divisional organizational structure in order to easily manage the entire company without compromising the quality of their product lines. For instance, Sony Financial Holdings Group provides business solution services to the market and needs different operational processes compared to Sony Entertainment Business Group that provides television, digital cameras, and video cameras in the market. Each of these groups requires different set of operational style, set of skills and equipments, and set of strategies, thereby providing enough room to these groups to operate independently from one another would enhance their productivity and efficiency as they specialize into their production process. This is the main reason why Sony chose to use divisional organization design in order to provide enough room for each product line to be developed separately by workers specialized on producing it from other product line. In this regard, the strategy of Sony to diversify its product line gave way for the use of divisional organization structure. Furthermore, another factor that serves to be the key determinant of Sony Corporationââ¬â¢s organization structure would be its growth rate. Sony Corporation has roughly 4 percent sales growth rate internationally as of this month which is relatively higher compared to its rival companies like Panasonic with -2. 78 percent sales growth rate (Reuters. com 2008: 1). During the initial stage of Sonyââ¬â¢s growth in the international market, as their product become more diverse leading to a fast-paced growth, Sony chose to use divisional organization structure to allow the company to cope up with the said growth rate since divisional organization structure provides enough room for Sony to further develop their diverse product line through specialization. At present, the root of organization stability of Sony roots on the fact that they were not able to accompanied their market growth and expansion with internal expansion causing for the divisional organization structure to work inefficiently. Once the internal growth rate of Sony already aligned itself to its market growth, then, that is the only time wherein Sony can fully utilize the potential gains of using divisional organization structure. In this regard, it is therefore vital for Sony to keep track its market growth and internal growth if whether these two still align each other since these affects the performance of their organization structure. The strategy and growth of Sony is interrelated to one another and this is the main reason why these two factors greatly affect its organization structure. The strategy of Sony to diversify its product line provided them with enough opportunity to increase their market share in the international market. The said product line expansion and increase of market share enable Sony to easily penetrate its target market and outperformed its competitors. Furthermore, as Sony continues to successfully penetrate its target market and outperformed its competitors, it starts to gain impressive growth in the market due to higher sales and profit. But the said market growth of Sony was not accompanied by internal expansion which presently leads to tremendous losses as key personnel of its groups starts performing inefficiently and ineffectiveness of their organization structure. Furthermore, as these key personnel of Sony perform inefficiently, the research and development of their products starts to drop, giving enough room for its competitors to step up in the electronics and business solutions industry and provide financial losses to the company (Forbes. com 2008: 1). Therefore, at this point in time, it is vital for Sony to address these instabilities on its workforce in order to restore their competitiveness in the international market with respect to their market strategies and technological advancement. Organizational Effectiveness One way in which Sony Corporation evaluates performance would be through the use of Information and Communications Technology Supplier Self-Assessment Questionnaire which aims to determine if whether their suppliers uphold the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct. Since suppliers have a direct impact on the overall performance of Sony in terms of product quality, along with other electronics companies around the globe such as HP, IBM, and Microsoft, Sony Corporation created the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct which encompasses the ICT Supplier Self-Assessment Questionnaire. Through the ICT Supplier Self-Assessment Questionnaire, Sony can monitor the product quality of their suppliers. By securing the performance of their suppliers, Sony Corporation has been able to maintain its integrity of producing high quality products in the market. There were cases wherein Sony Corporation was sued for releasing substandard products in the market. Like what happened recently when a couple sued Sony when the battery of a Sony laptop exploded causing injuries to the complainants. Due to this, Sony had to pull out all of the batteries that were being suspected as substandard and replaced with a new one in order to prevent having more accidents. In this regard, through the ICT Supplier Self Assessment Questionnaire, Sony Corporation can stop the above mentioned accident caused to substandard products that they release in the market which mostly came from their suppliers. Dell, the maker of the said substandard battery of Sony laptop, is now making collaboration with Sony in pulling out those substandard laptop batteries in the market. Another way by which Sony evaluates their performance is through the use of balance scorecard. Balance score card help every organization in the market to determine if whether their smaller scale operational activities are still aligned with their larger scale activities. As for the case of Sony Corporation, it uses balance scorecard in determining the alignment operational processes of its groups, e. g. Sony Ericson Mobile Communications, Game Business Group, Entertainment Business Group, and Sony Financial Holdings Group, to the vision and strategy of the entire organization. For instance, the balance scorecard is being used by Sony Corporation in determining if whether the processes used in producing Sony Ericsson in the market are still aligned with the Corporate Social Responsibility of the entire company. Through this, Sony Corporation can keep their various groups intact to the vision and strategies of their ââ¬Å"parentâ⬠company ââ¬â Sony Corporation. Just recently, Sony Ericsson phone was awarded as the most ââ¬Å"Eco-Friendlyâ⬠phone in the market and the said award is being attributed to the continues success of Sony Corporation to uphold its Corporate Social Responsibility on minimizing the wastes being emitted in producing the said product (Sayer 2008: 1). Considering the said success of Sony Ericsson phone in the market, there is a great possibility that it can earn positive balance scorecard by upholding the CSR of Sony Corporation, which can eventually serve as the basis for further development of Sony Ericsson phone in the market (Ericsson. co. jp 2005: 9). Therefore, balance scorecard provides enough room for Sony Corporation to determine the alignment of their product lines to their vision and strategy especially when it concerns the integrity of their brand name. At this point, the performance evaluation tools of Sony Corporation, ICT Supplier Self Assessment Questionnaire and Balance Scorecard, has been able to solve its problem regarding maintaining the quality of their products in the market by securing the compliance of their suppliers and aligning the production processes of their product lines into their Corporate Social Responsibilities. Therefore, ICT Supplier Self Assessment Questionnaire and Balance Scorecard fit to the vision and strategies of Sony Corporation based from their successful solution regarding the low quality level of Sonyââ¬â¢s products in the market. This issue on quality level and on how the above identified evaluation tools of Sony Corporation solved it will be thoroughly discussed in the next part of the paper. Critical Analysis of Current Problems Actually, the main problem of Sony Corporation would be the misalignment of its market and internal expansion that eventually lead to various ââ¬Å"branch-problemsâ⬠like low performance rate from the workforce of the company as well as the deterioration of the quality level of their product lines in the market. The fast-paced growth of Sony in the past years, while leaving their internal condition to remain untouched, provided inefficiencies on the part of their workforce as the responsibility of one another can no longer be performed as efficient as before, and low product quality as the said inefficiencies on their workforce started to reflect on the quality level of their product lines. This is the main reason why Sony Corporation suffers from return on investment and profit on its operation as their customers shift to the side of their competitors since the latter already have relatively technologically advanced product lines in the market compared to Sony Corporation. In order to provide a long term solution to this problem of Sony Corporation, it is a must for the management of the said company to expand their workforce either by adding new positions to reinforce the key positions in the company or hire more workers to delegate the tasks optimally among their workforce. But at present, Sony Corporation is applying short term solutions to these problems through the use of evaluation tools as discussed on the previous part of this paper. First, the ICT Supplier Self Assessment Questionnaire provided solution on securing the quality of their supplierââ¬â¢s products which later on be used on the production process of Sony. With the ICT Supplier Self Assessment Questionnaire, Sony can monitor if whether the supplies of their suppliers are substandard or complies with the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct which sets up the standards for electronic products in the market (Greenwald 2005: 2). Sony Corporation can now minimize the incidence of product malfunction or substandard components of their product lines just like what happened to the batteries of Sonyââ¬â¢s laptop that exploded due to overheating. ICT Supplier Self Assessment Questionnaire will improve the quality of Sonyââ¬â¢s product line even up to a small degree since it only solves their problem on the side of their supplier and not the root of the problem which still lies on the internal stability of their workforce. With the rise of ICT Supplier Self Assessment Questionnaire and Electronic Industry Code of Conduct, cases of substandard electronic products in the market will be minimized leading for Sony to improve the quality level of its products (United Nations Environment Program 2005: 1). In this regard, through the use of ICT Supplier Self Assessment Questionnaire, Sony Corporation manages to improve the quality of their product lines even up to a small degree. On the other hand, the balance scorecard of Sony Corporation provides enough room for the said company to improve the quality of their workforceââ¬â¢s performance since the company can determine if whether a group or department already performs outside the boundaries of their vision and corporate strategies. There are times wherein the misalignment of Sony Corporationââ¬â¢s products to their vision and corporate strategies roots on the inefficient performance of workforce of a given department or group, and balance scorecard can determine if whether a given group of Sony Corporation performs inefficiently based from the evaluation of the products being produced by that given group. Through this, Sony Corporation can easily determine which group among its companies needs to undergo workforce expansion to solve the said inefficiency of their workers. In this regard, the balance scorecard provides two services to Sony Corporation, evaluation of their productââ¬â¢s performance in the market and its alignment to the vision and corporate strategies of the company, and on which group of the company needs workforce expansion in order to improve the quality of their product lines just like what happened to Sony Ericsson phone in the market (Esato. com 2007: 1). Solutions In order for Sony Corporation to have long term solution to their problem regarding the misalignment of their market and internal expansion as the consequence of their fast-paced growth, it is advisable for them to expand their workforce either by adding new positions into their organization structure to optimally delegate the tasks among the workers of the company; or, the management could hire more workers that will handle the additional responsibilities provided by the market expansion of the company. Furthermore, through adding new position to the organization structure to various business groups of Sony Corporation, e. g. executive assistants will give their key executives to delegate some of the less important tasks and responsibilities to their assistants so they can concentrate to more responsibilities. The divisional organization structure of Sony Corporation will still be used in the organization design of Sony under the said strategy considering that it is the only organization design that fits to the business nature of Sony Corporation as discussed on the previous part of this paper. On the other hand, with regards to hiring more workers that will be responsible on shouldering the additional tasks provided by the market expansion of Sony Corporation, this will provide Sony with enough room to improve the efficiency of their workforce as every person on their workforce can now perform their responsibilities to their optimal level since tasks are now well distributed on their workforce. At the end of the day, these strategies will improve the quality of Sonyââ¬â¢s workforce and so with the quality of their products. The only problem with hiring of additional workers would be the fact that it is costly to hire more workers for the company considering that Sony is presently suffering from low profitability in the market compared to adding new position to the organization structure of Sony Corporation. Recommendation Both of the above mentioned strategies provides same improvement on lifting the efficiency of Sony Corporationââ¬â¢s workforce and boosting its product quality level, but in terms of costs on the part of the company, adding new positions to the organization structure of Sony is relatively cheaper than hiring more workers. In this regard, alongside with the performance evaluation tools of Sony Corporation, it is a must for their management to add new positions into the divisional organization structure of the company to provide long term solution on their low quality product in terms of technology and improving the efficiency of their workforce considering the extent of their market expansion in the global market. Conclusion With the misalignment of market and internal expansion of Sony Corporation due to its fast-paced growth in the international market, it provided various problems into the said company. Technological advancement of Sonyââ¬â¢s products drops while the efficiency of its workforce decline due to the significant increase on tasks and responsibilities on the workplace caused by the fast-paced growth of Sony in the recent years. Through adding new positions on the organization structure of Sony, it can already improve the efficiency of its workforce and so with the rate of its product lineââ¬â¢s technological advancement in the market.

Rise of Christianity essays
Rise of Christianity essays Sub: RISE OF CHRISTIANITY AMONGST THE ROMANS, The rise of the Christian religion amongst our Roman people is indeed a serious cause of concern, and I have, upon your esteemed orders carried a detailed study on the numerous causes of this new religion's success. Please allow me to present some of these causes, which I am certain will be a source of enlightenment for you as well as the other leaders of our great Roman Empire. As my present letter will explain, some of the important reasons for the continued success of the Christian religion lies in our policies of tolerating alien gods, the belief and practice of martyrs which strengthened the Christian religion, and most significant reason of all, the willingness of the elite, the educated as well as the general masses alike in accepting the Christian religion. My dear Emperor, it has been our Roman belief and part of our policies to allow freedom to our people to obey a number of gods, as we do, such as our gods, Jupiter, Mercury, and Neptune to name but a few. Thus, the rise and growth of Christianity by obeying their god comes as no surprise. The absence of any single law or rule in the Roman Empire against persecution of believers of alien gods, makes it all the more suitable for any religion to prosper without any hindrance or obstruction from state authorities, thus the rise and growth of this religion. As will be evident from our own history, it was not before Emperor Deicius, that some form of persecution began in the issuance of edicts, that the spread of Christianity was interrupted. Furthermore, even the issuance of these edicts did little to actually stop the rise of Christianity, as the holy scriptures of this religion already foretold the events, and only proved what was already written. In fact, these steps only strengthened their beliefs, and were construed to be a step in the right direction. My dear Emperor, another reason for the speedy rise and grow...

Free Essays on Effects of the Fall
The Effects of the Fall The fall of man has produced many different effects that have changed our minds, bodies, spirituality, and emotions, causing mankind to become further from Godââ¬â¢s original plan. The moment sin entered our lives; we (humans) became imperfect and unable to achieve the perfection that we lost. The word perfect means; blameless, exact, holy, flawless and sinless says The Writers Digest Dictionary. Adam and Eve shared the most intimate relationship with God. They put an end to that intimacy, when they both took a bite out of the forbidden fruit and caused the first sin. That original sin caused more to humanity than just the lost intimate relationship with God. In Henry Blocherââ¬â¢s book Original Sin, he quotes John Calvin writing of the definition of original sin is, ââ¬Ëhereditary, depravity, and corruption of our nature, diffused into all parts of the soul, which first makes us liable to Godââ¬â¢s wraith, then also brings forth in us those works which scripture calls ââ¬Å"works of the fleshâ⬠(Gal. 5:19).ââ¬â¢ After the sin the human race would change rapidly and noticeably. Before the fall of man, Adam was given many different duties by God. Adam was in charge of the naming of the animals in the world. If a person were to open a modern biology book and view the different names and families of the animal kingdom; that was Adams doing. He named all the birds of the air, the creatures of the earth, and the fish of the sea and put them into all different types of categories and classes. God made Adam a rational creature, gifted with the power of choice. After the fall of man, our minds have become tainted and almost even inactive.
